Salesforce Invests in Brunello Cucinelli’s AI Platform to Revolutionize Online Shopping Experiences

Salesforce is making a significant strategic investment in Callimacus, the groundbreaking artificial intelligence-powered platform developed by the esteemed luxury retailer Brunello Cucinelli’s Solomei AI team. This move signals Salesforce’s conviction that AI-generated shopping experiences are poised to fundamentally reshape brand engagement with online consumers, ushering in a new era of personalized and dynamic e-commerce.

Callimacus distinguishes itself by moving beyond the conventional, often cumbersome, website navigation. Instead, it crafts unique, AI-generated experiences that are composed in real-time for each individual visitor. This innovative approach aims to eliminate the static, page-based structure of traditional websites, offering a fluid and highly tailored journey for every shopper. Salesforce’s support will be instrumental in deploying Callimacus to new clients across Europe and North America, leveraging its extensive e-commerce ecosystem.

The significance of this partnership is underscored by Salesforce’s dominant position in the e-commerce landscape. Data from Digital Commerce 360 reveals that 78 of the Top 2000 online retailers in North America currently utilize Salesforce as their e-commerce platform. These industry giants collectively generated over $192.60 billion in web sales in 2025 alone. The Top 2000 database ranks North America’s largest online retailers based on their annual e-commerce sales, providing a clear picture of the market’s reliance on Salesforce’s infrastructure.

The Rationale Behind Salesforce’s Strategic Backing

The decision by Salesforce to invest in Callimacus stems from a shared vision for the future of digital retail, one that prioritizes humanistic technology and deeply personalized customer interactions. Francesco Bottigliero, CEO of Callimacus and Chief of Humanistic Technology at Foro delle Arti and Brunello Cucinelli, articulated his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Salesforce represents the ideal collaborator at this pivotal moment.

"We found Callimacus especially strong from an industrial and commercial standpoint – a platform available on the market for any kind of integration," Bottigliero remarked. He further elaborated on the internal capabilities of the Callimacus team: "It’s a small, young, talented team, but we also needed someone besides us who could guide us through the development of this project." This acknowledgment highlights the strategic value of Salesforce’s expertise in scaling and commercializing innovative technologies.

Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the philosophical alignment between the two organizations. "Brunello has always believed that technology should elevate humanity, and that conviction is at the heart of Callimacus," Benioff stated. He lauded the Solomei AI team’s achievements, noting, "The team has developed an innovative platform that reimagines AI-powered experiences, bringing together conversational AI, enterprise context, and real-time personalization to create entirely new ways for businesses to engage with their customers." Benioff, a vocal advocate for Salesforce’s own advancements in artificial intelligence, expressed pride in the collaboration: "We’re proud to partner with Brunello and the Solomei AI team as they pioneer a new generation of AI-powered experiences."

Brunello Cucinelli’s Pioneering Callimacus Debut

The genesis of Callimacus was marked by its practical application through Brunello Cucinelli’s launch of BrunelloCucinelli.AI in January. This innovative e-commerce site was famously described by the company as a "pageless" storefront, built entirely on the Callimacus platform. This initial deployment served as a real-world validation of the technology’s capabilities, demonstrating its potential to redefine the online shopping paradigm.

The investment from Salesforce is anticipated to accelerate Callimacus’s growth trajectory. This could translate into expanding its engineering and AI research teams, thereby speeding up product development and enhancing the platform’s sophisticated algorithms. Furthermore, the partnership is strategically positioned to facilitate the scaling of commercial operations across Europe and North America, making the revolutionary shopping experience accessible to a broader market.

Since its inception, Callimacus has garnered significant interest from various industries, indicating its broad applicability beyond the luxury fashion sector. Brunello Cucinelli reported that "more than 40 inbound inquiries have come in from other industries – not fashion, not luxury, but consumer goods companies too." Bottigliero observed that the success of Callimacus is intrinsically linked to the strength of a brand’s identity and its desire to offer a deeply personalized experience. "That’s where there’s the biggest advantage in adopting Callimacus: when the brand identity is strong and the experience itself needs to be crafted, not just [a generic storefront]," he assessed. This suggests that brands with a rich narrative and a commitment to bespoke customer journeys will find Callimacus particularly transformative.

Addressing Online Retail Challenges in the Luxury Space

The luxury e-commerce sector, in particular, faces unique challenges in replicating the exclusivity and personalized service of in-store experiences online. Traditional e-commerce platforms often struggle to convey the nuanced brand ethos and provide the bespoke attention that high-end consumers expect. Maisa Benatti, CEO of AIUTA, a fashion-tech company specializing in AI-powered visual infrastructure for retailers, highlighted this disconnect. Having spent nearly a decade working in agentic fashion AI, Benatti pointed out that most current e-commerce experiences are still rooted in the limitations of web design from two decades ago, characterized by static pages, fixed content, and a one-size-fits-all customer journey.

"I think agentic, ‘pageless’ commerce is the natural evolution of online shopping," Benatti stated. "Instead of customers navigating websites, AI will increasingly assemble experiences in real-time around their intent, context and preferences." This shift signifies a move from a passive browsing experience to an active, AI-driven co-creation of the shopping journey.

Benatti further explained that as navigation becomes conversational, merchandising will evolve to be more dynamic. This involves tailoring content generated in real-time for personalization, rather than relying on pre-produced assets. She refers to this paradigm shift as "liquid content."

"Rather than creating a fixed set of product images, videos or editorial campaigns, retailers will have a flexible layer of visual assets that can be recomposed instantly for each shopper," Benatti elaborated. This allows for unprecedented levels of personalization, where a customer might not just see a campaign as it was shot, but can envision themselves within it. "They can swap garments with pieces from their own wardrobe, change models, styling, backgrounds, body types, or climates, all while preserving the brand’s creative direction," she explained. "The content becomes adaptive rather than static."

Benatti anticipates that this trend, initiated by luxury brands, will eventually permeate the broader retail landscape. As other merchants and brands recognize the benefits of adaptive content—such as improved conversion rates, increased customer confidence, and reduced production costs—it is likely to become an integral part of the standard e-commerce stack rather than a niche novelty.

The Evolving Landscape: Agentic AI’s Future for Retail and Luxury Brands

The initial impact of Brunello Cucinelli’s AI initiative, powered by Callimacus, has been demonstrably positive. Bottigliero reported that customer time spent on Brunello Cucinelli’s website has doubled since the launch, leading to a subsequent increase in conversions. This outcome underscores the tangible benefits of AI-driven, personalized shopping experiences.

However, the path toward widespread adoption of agentic AI in retail is not without its challenges. Benatti cautioned about potential pitfalls that brands must navigate. "There are important challenges," she stated. "Brand control becomes even more critical when content is generated dynamically – brands need guardrails that ensure every generated experience still reflects their identity." Maintaining brand integrity and consistency while empowering AI to create dynamic content requires robust governance and sophisticated oversight.

Furthermore, the evolution of analytics is crucial. Current metrics, often focused on page performance, will need to adapt to measure the effectiveness of AI-generated experiences in influencing customer behavior. Benatti also foresees significant changes in search engine optimization (SEO). "SEO [search engine optimization] will undoubtedly change as traditional page structures become less central, but I see search itself becoming increasingly AI-driven, making structured product data and content quality more important than static landing pages," she noted.

Ultimately, Benatti believes the future of online shopping is not necessarily about being "pageless" but about the fundamental shift from pre-created experiences to dynamically generated ones. "The bigger shift is from pre-created experiences to generated experiences," she concluded. "Retailers won’t compete on who has the most content – they’ll compete on who can generate the most relevant experience for every individual customer, in real time." This competitive landscape will be defined by the ability of brands to leverage AI to understand and cater to the unique needs and desires of each shopper, fostering deeper connections and driving unprecedented levels of engagement and loyalty.

The investment by Salesforce in Callimacus represents a bold step towards realizing this future. By empowering a platform that prioritizes personalized, AI-driven interactions, Salesforce is positioning itself and its clients at the forefront of a retail revolution, where every online shopping journey is a bespoke creation.
