Onetag Acquires Italian Creative Ad Tech Platform Aryel to Enhance Sell-Side Curation and AI Capabilities

Monday, March 2nd, 2026 – 3:00 am

In a significant move to differentiate itself within the increasingly competitive programmatic advertising landscape, Onetag, a global ad exchange and curation platform, announced on Monday the acquisition of Aryel, an innovative Italian creative ad tech company. This strategic acquisition is designed to bolster Onetag’s sell-side curation solutions by integrating Aryel’s advanced capabilities in interactive ad creative development and testing, a crucial step in its ongoing effort to move beyond the perception of being a mere conduit for ad transactions. The integration is also poised to significantly contribute to the development of Onetag’s forthcoming AI-based deal optimization engine, slated for release at the end of March.

The impetus behind this acquisition stems from a broader industry trend: the rise of supply-path optimization (SPO). As advertisers and agencies gain more sophisticated tools to analyze and streamline their media buying processes, Supply-Side Platforms (SSPs) are under mounting pressure to demonstrate tangible value beyond simply facilitating the delivery of ads. This has spurred a wave of innovation on the sell-side, with companies like Onetag actively seeking ways to offer more than just inventory. The sell-side curation trend, which has gained considerable traction over the past few years, is a direct response to this pressure, empowering publishers and SSPs to package their inventory more strategically and offer advertisers greater control and transparency.

Onetag’s journey reflects this evolving market dynamic. Originally launched in 2015 as a Demand-Side Platform (DSP), the company pivoted to develop a performance-focused SSP for Procter & Gamble. This initial success paved the way for a global expansion of its SSP offering in 2020. Recognizing the need to stand out in a crowded marketplace, Onetag introduced its proprietary sell-side curation platform, Smart Curation, in 2022. The acquisition of Aryel represents a strategic acceleration of this differentiation strategy.

Interactive Impact: Elevating Creative for Programmatic Excellence

Filippo Gramigna, co-CEO of Onetag, articulated the rationale behind the acquisition, highlighting the growing saturation of the curation market with "non-differentiated middlemen." He emphasized that the key to distinguishing oneself in this environment lies in simplifying the adoption of curation for advertisers of all sizes and empowering them to create their own deal IDs with ease. Aryel’s technology directly addresses this need by offering tools that can adapt existing creative assets into programmatic-friendly formats.

Aryel’s platform excels at reformatting creative assets to seamlessly fit standard IAB banner sizes and online video specifications. This technical capability is crucial for advertisers looking to leverage their existing creative investments within programmatic campaigns without extensive re-work. However, Aryel’s specialization extends beyond mere reformatting; it is a leader in developing interactive ad creative. This focus on interactivity is a perfect complement to Onetag’s existing curated marketplace, which comprises 50,000 high-impact ad units sourced through over 2,000 direct publisher connections.

The synergy between Onetag’s curated, high-performing ad inventory and Aryel’s interactive creative capabilities is expected to yield significantly enhanced campaign performance. "Placing interactive ads within already high-performing ad slots should make those placements even more effective at driving outcomes," Gramigna stated. This approach promises to elevate the engagement potential of programmatic advertising, moving beyond passive ad consumption to active user interaction.

Gramigna provided a concrete example of Aryel’s innovative creative formats: a "try it on" feature designed for apparel and accessories brands. For an eyewear company, this could translate into an experience where users can virtually try on different frames using their device’s camera. Critically, this immersive experience is delivered within a standard IAB banner, allowing users to engage without leaving the publisher’s website, thereby minimizing friction and maximizing the likelihood of conversion.

Furthermore, Aryel has been actively experimenting with interactive formats tailored for AI chatbot interfaces. This forward-looking development positions Onetag to tap into emerging advertising opportunities within the rapidly evolving landscape of conversational AI platforms, a sector projected for substantial growth in the coming years. Industry analysts predict that conversational AI advertising could represent a multi-billion dollar market by the end of the decade, making this a strategic area for Onetag to invest in.

A Strategic Partnership Culminates in Acquisition

The relationship between Onetag and Aryel began approximately eighteen months prior to the acquisition, a period marked by successful collaboration. This successful partnership, coupled with the strategic vision of Onetag’s largest shareholder, Wise Equity, ultimately led to the pursuit of this acquisition, Onetag’s first in its history.

While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Gramigna confirmed the transaction’s completion. He further revealed that the combined entity generated $70 million in net revenue based on the previous year’s performance. This financial performance underscores the scale and market presence of the newly integrated organization.

The acquisition brings not only Aryel’s cutting-edge creative technology into Onetag’s fold but also its entire team of 45 employees. This influx of talent expands Onetag’s workforce to approximately 130 individuals. Notably, Aryel’s four co-founders will be integrated into Onetag’s leadership structure. Mattia Salvi, Aryel’s CEO, will assume the critical role of Chief Growth Officer and Head of Go-to-Market, signaling a strong commitment to leveraging Aryel’s expertise in driving future business development.

Integration and Expansion: Charting a Course for the Future

The immediate priority for the combined company is the seamless integration of Onetag and Aryel’s corporate cultures and operational workflows. Gramigna expressed confidence in the ease of this process, citing Aryel’s proximity to Onetag’s technology hub in Tuscany, located approximately an hour’s drive away. This geographical closeness is expected to facilitate smoother collaboration and knowledge transfer.

Looking ahead, Onetag’s long-term strategy involves solidifying its strong position in the European market and subsequently building a more substantial presence in the United States. Currently, Onetag maintains a small New York office to service its US publisher clients. The acquisition of Aryel, with its existing relationships and innovative approach to creative, is expected to provide a significant boost to Onetag’s expansion efforts in the US market.

Furthermore, Onetag plans to broaden its curation offering beyond its current focus on display and online video advertising throughout the current year. Despite not having a significant presence in the Connected TV (CTV) sector, Onetag achieved a notable 34% year-over-year growth in net ad revenue last year. The company anticipates that its entry into the CTV space will unlock substantial incremental growth opportunities, a market segment that has seen exponential growth in recent years, with global CTV ad spending projected to reach over $30 billion in 2026.

The acquisition’s impact on Onetag’s client base has also been a positive factor. Given the limited overlap in their respective client portfolios, the acquisition has already strengthened Onetag’s position on the buy-side. "That’s another element of why we decided to do this deal," Gramigna stated. "The fact that they’ve been able to get the brands and the CMOs they typically talk to excited about working in programmatic thanks to these formats helps the narrative when it comes to our relationship with media agencies." This suggests that Aryel’s ability to engage brand-side decision-makers with innovative creative solutions will translate into stronger partnerships with media agencies, who are increasingly looking for innovative and effective ways to reach consumers.

The programmatic advertising industry is in a constant state of evolution, driven by technological advancements and shifting advertiser demands. Onetag’s acquisition of Aryel signifies a proactive response to these trends, positioning the company to offer a more compelling and differentiated value proposition. By integrating advanced creative capabilities with robust curation and AI-driven optimization, Onetag aims to set a new standard for what SSPs can offer, moving beyond their traditional role as mere intermediaries to become strategic partners in driving advertising success. The integration of interactive creative into programmatic workflows, supported by Onetag’s expanding global reach and focus on AI, suggests a future where ads are not only more efficiently delivered but also more engaging and impactful for consumers and more effective for advertisers.
